Sunday, September 15th is the 5th Annual Thousand Islands Gran Fondo cycling event. This event started five years ago to showcase the great roads and magic of the Thousand Islands.
There will be three route options for a wide spectrum of riders and ability levels – 80, 120, and 160km. The ride will also feature post-ride food supplied by Capers Catering and beer to go with it from Spearhead Brewing Company.
More information on the ride:
The ride will start and finish from downtown Kingston, out of the historic Woolen Mill at 4 Cataraqui St., situated along the Cataraqui River, where it meets Lake Ontario and the St. Lawrence River. Under a police escort through the downtown section of Kingston, cyclists will head east up Fort Henry Hill past the Kingston Canadian Forces Base. Here, cyclists will travel east along Hwy 2 beside the St. Lawrence River into Gananoque where they will enter the newly paved trails of the beautiful Thousand Islands Parkway. The ride takes you all the way through the parkway (or partway through for 80 and 120km riders) where it finishes at the outskirts of Brockville. Riders will eventually cross over onto beautiful secondary country roads all the way back into Gananoque. Eventually they will enter Kingston again, and hit Joyceville road before taking Hwy 2 back to the Woolen Mill to be greeted by family and friends and celebrate with great food and a cold beer!
