The Juvenis Festival 2024
Kingston is set to sparkle with the return of the Juvenis Festival 2024, happening May 2nd to May 12th. This annual celebration of youth arts showcases a wide array of talents across multiple venues, making it a cornerstone event for Kingston’s cultural calendar. The festival kicks off with the J.F. Youth Film Night and the thrilling Battle of the Bands at The Broom Factory, a fully accessible venue located at 305 Rideau St. Throughout the ten-day festival, attendees can also explore the Storefront Art Gallery at Cataraqui Centre, situated on the first floor near the elevator, offering an accessible space for young artists to display their works.
Further enriching Kingston’s artistic landscape, the Isabel Bader Centre for the Performing Arts at 390 King St. W will host the original play “Unknown Caller” and the family-friendly musical “Honk! Jr.” in its accessible Studio Theatre. Outdoors, Doug Fluhrer Park will present “Aki Miizhaayaan: The Land Offers/Gives,” a unique cultural experience, though guests should be prepared for uneven terrain. Additional events include creative workshops and performances at both locations of Kingston Frontenac Public Library, the Kingston Gaming Nexus, and the Kingston Native Centre and Languages Nest, each offering unique activities but varying in accessibility. Not to be missed, the Tett Centre for Creativity & Learning will host “Making Art Work: Pathways Into the Arts,” accessible from Suite 305, and Theological Hall (Rotunda Theatre) will bring to life popular musicals like “Rent” and “The Lightning Thief: A Percy Jackson Musical.”
Each venue is chosen to enhance the festival experience while highlighting the importance of accessibility and community engagement. From visual arts at the Cataraqui Centre to transformative theater at Isabel Bader, and engaging outdoor activities at Doug Fluhrer Park, the Juvenis Festival invites all of Kingston to celebrate the dynamic creativity of its youth.
