Deantha Edmunds with The New Orford String Quartet
Experience the mesmerizing performance of Inuk soprano Deantha Edmunds, recently appointed a member of the Order of Canada, as she shares original selections from her award-winning Indigenous classical album, “Connections.” On September 8th at 2:30 PM, join us at the Isabel Bader Centre for the Performing Arts for an unforgettable afternoon of music and culture.
Performing alongside one of Canada’s finest chamber music ensembles, the New Orford String Quartet, Deantha will sing sacred selections in Inuktitut from her album “Pillorikput Inuit: Inuktitut Arias for All Seasons,” as they were sung in Nunatsiavut 200 years ago. This program will give audiences a glimpse into who Edmunds is, how she walks through this world, and who and what she carries with her. Accompanying her are internationally renowned throat singers, Sylvia Cloutier and Nancy Mike. They will raise their voices in this ancient tradition, weaving in and out of Deantha’s original music, creating a powerful and evocative experience.
