Vancouver/Victoria vocalist Angela Verbrugge is releasing her second album, “Love for Connoisseurs”. Accompanied by New York City jazz pianist, Ray Gallon, she will be singing favourite jazz standards and originals in the style of classic jazz repertoire. Angela is making a stop in Kingston as part of her 2022 cross-Canada release tour. She performed at the RCHA Club two years ago to a Sold Out audience.
Angela’s vision for this album project was to create a new vocal jazz repertoire by collaborating with composers that write innovative, yet catchy, bebop and classic jazz melodies. She caught listeners’ ears with her critically-acclaimed debut album, “The Night We Couldn’t Say Good Night” and won the 2021 JazzTimes Readers’ Poll for best female jazz vocalist. JazzTimes writes that Angela “possesses a winsome, brightly burnished, pliable voice, ample emotional intelligence, and conspicuously good taste”, while JazzWeekly describes her as “fun and quirky, hip and a hoot, wispy and romantic.”
In 2021, she performed her music in some top jazz clubs in London and Istanbul. Angela (née Clancy), born and raised in the Kingston area, played with the ESS band and performed at the Grand Theatre, later graduating from George Brown Theatre School in Toronto. She uses her music and acting training and experiences to help bring her songs to life.
