Deantha Edmunds with the New Orford String Quartet and Inuit Throat Singers
Prepare for an unforgettable musical experience as Deantha Edmunds takes the stage with the New Orford String Quartet and world-renowned Inuit throat singers, Sylvia Cloutier and Nancy Mike, in a groundbreaking performance at the Isabel Bader Centre on Sunday, September 8th, 2024, at 2:30 PM. This matinee performance marks the season opener and promises to be a world-first, combining the powerful, uplifting soprano vocals of Deantha with one of Canada’s finest chamber music ensembles and the ancient tradition of Inuit throat singing.
This unique concert will feature original selections from Deantha’s award-winning Indigenous classical album, Connections, as well as sacred Inuktitut arias from her album, Pillorikput Inuit: Inuktitut Arias for All Seasons, performed as they were sung in Nunatsiavut 200 years ago. The intricate interplay between the Quartet’s strings and the throat singers’ mesmerizing voices will create a multi-layered acoustic triumph that has never been heard before. This is a rare opportunity to witness a performance that blends different musical traditions into a powerful, cohesive whole, offering a truly unique experience that will resonate long after the final note.
