GINO: A Child of War” Movie Screening & Reception
Unveiling Hope and Resilience: “GINO: A Child of War” Movie Screening at the Italo-Canadian Club
The Italo-Canadian Club of Kingston is honored to host a special screening of “GINO: A Child of War” on Friday, March 15, 2024, from 7 pm to 9 pm. This poignant docudrama invites audiences to a journey back to Second World War Italy, where it uncovers the heartwarming story of Gino Farnetti, an orphaned Italian boy whose life takes a remarkable turn. Set amidst the backdrop of war-torn Torrice, Italy, in 1944, the film narrates Gino’s discovery by Canadian soldiers. Alone, frightened, and hungry, Gino is rescued and cared for by these compassionate men, particularly forming an unbreakable bond with soldier “Red” Lloyd Oliver. This film not only chronicles their extraordinary relationship but also serves as a testament to the resilience of the human spirit and the unique kindness embodied in the “Canadian Way.”
Doors to this moving event will open at 7 pm, commencing with a cocktail hour featuring light appetizers and a cash bar, allowing guests to mingle and set the tone for the evening. The movie screening will start at 8 pm, complete with complimentary popcorn, immersing the audience in a gripping tale of survival and human connection. Following the screening, a Q&A session will offer deeper insights into the film’s journey and its historical significance. This special event is made possible by the collaborative efforts of Col (ret’d) Tony Battista and filmmakers Karen Storwick and Robert Curtin of Combined Forces Production Collaborative, whose mission is to bring Canadian War History to life through compelling storytelling.
