Songs of War & Peace
Songs of War & Peace – A Cantabile Choirs of Kingston Production
Join the Cantabile Choirs of Kingston for an unforgettable evening of music that explores the profound connection between human experience and the powerful themes of war and peace. REBORN: Songs of War & Peace delves into how music, through various styles and eras, has served as a source of solace, a way to process grief, and a symbol of hope throughout history.
This concert will feature a carefully curated selection of pieces that juxtapose the stark realities of conflict with the enduring resilience of the human spirit. Highlights of the evening include excerpts from “Seven Last Words of the Unarmed” by Joel Thompson, a powerful composition that memorializes the final words of unarmed Black men who lost their lives at the hands of police. The evening will also include the world premiere of a new composition by Aaron Manswell, the winner of Cantabile’s 2024 BIPOC Song Competition.
Canadian composers Eleanor Daley, Mark Sirett, Hussein Janmohamed, and Sherryl Sewepegaham will contribute to the rich and varied program with their unique voices, offering a musical journey that reflects Canada’s diverse cultural landscape.
This moving concert promises to be an evocative experience that shines a light on the complexities of conflict and the triumph of peace through the universal language of music.
